The PPS8 is one of the best personal alarms on the market. It features a 130dB alarm – the loudest rated alarm sold by Vigilant. Designed to be placed in the outer pockets of a purse or backpack, the PPS8 can also be hand carried by joggers. The alarm is activated by simply pulling the pin, which deters attackers or intruders but also functions to draw attention to you if you need medical attention or help. Use of a personal alarm switches the element of surprise from the attacker to the potential victim. The PPS8 also includes a miniature LED light, activated by a separate on/off button, for a quick and small illumination of a walking path, car door lock, or other low light situations.
Personal alarms are one of the fastest growing segments at retail in the self defense industry, because an attacker’s worst enemy is attention. Personal alarms are legal to carry in all 50 states (even on airplanes!) and are a very safe and effective method of self defense. They require no training or skill to operate, and can be used by anyone regardless of age or physical ability. Police Officers, Campus Safety and Security Consultants recommend the use of personal safety alarms. Victims are often too traumatized to shout for help in unfamiliar and dangerous situations, increasing their vulnerability. The high pitched alarm is intended to scare off an assailant while switching the element of surprise from the attacker to the victim. Criminals do not like to draw attention, and will likely run off when they realize the alarm cannot be stopped.
A percentage of the sale from each personal alarm will be donated to missing children’s funds and non-profit personal safety organizations nationwide.
The PPS8 is particularly suitable for Young People, College Students, Night Owls, Lone Workers, Joggers, Elderly, Nurses/Personal Care Workers, Delivery/Route Employees.

best one I have tried,
I have three personal alarms including another one made by this company. While the other two are “okay”, this one definitely is better. It’s not as loud as an ambulance or jackhammer. That’s not true. But it is definitely sufficiently loud. It is enough that a criminal is not going to stand there and put up with that sound. In a crowd, someone will notice. I set mine off in the house and my unshakeable dog looked at me like “What heck just happened?” And he is not usually sensitive to flash lights, I pointed it at him, as it is not a laser, in full day light and he squinted because it was so bright. I put it through it’s own loop on my purse strap. So it’s right out there and obvious. I like the grenade pin activation and I especially like that it takes AAA batteries unlike all the others that take weirdo button batteries. So jackhammer or ambulance loud, no. Obnoxious and annoying enough to scare someone off, DEFINITELY. I am thinking of buying another for my sister who is handicapped and can’t really fight anyone off because no attacker wants to be seen or heard and you would definitely been seen and heard as much as you possibly could off of AAA. I mean it’s really really obnoxious to the point that it would draw a crowd. I really think these would be good for someone who wants something to protect a teenager or handicapped person that couldn’t be used against them in anyway such as pepper spray or a stun gun. And I do martial arts and you could always clasp this thing in your fist and beat someone with it if push came to shove, it’s big enough and harder than your hand.

Vigilant PPS8G 130 dB Personal Alarm,
Excellent product. All you do is pull the pin and the sound comes from the circle on the front of the unit which is the speaker. Pull the pin and cover it with your hand and you will see what I mean.
Replace the pin and the unit silences. Led is not super bright, but I don’t think you want to drain the battery for it’s actually intended purpose. Good for a quick “where did I put my keys” check.
I tested the unit before handing it over to my spouse and she agrees it’s very loud. Place the lanyard over your wrist. If you have to reach into your purse or pocket book to use it, unfortunately it might be too late.
Good size, fits the hand well and the pin is very secure. Give it a good tug!
