This fingerprint reader is, by far, the best I’ve used. It is 99{fa0f407a56ebf26e8755ec9e145523374db89e13015bb27dc750b111d8cc035c} accurate (assuming you are actually trying to scan your finger, not do it in the dark where half of your finger slips off). It is made of primarily metal, which makes it heavier than other scanners (this is a good thing, it keeps the scanner in place while on the desk. It also helps while scanning, as it cannot move when you press on it). It did not come with software, such as a CD or a dedicated program. The driver itself acts as the software. However, to get the “pro” version of the driver software, you must purchase that for (last I checked) around $19. Instead of this, it instructs you to use a free software called RoboForm. You’re able to integrate the scanner as both the Windows Login and the Master password for RoboForm.

RoboForm manages your passwords to websites and applications (such as Windows Live Messenger) at any length and complexity by allowing you to organize them based on category (School, Social Networking, Games, ect). It also provides you with other pieces of software, such as (I find this the most useful) “Generate Passwords”. This will allow you to customize how your desired password is built, such as: “8]AtGv572*25[e#P429G55|rZ”. It allows your to: Specify the number of characters, exclude similar characters, enable hexadecimal 0-9 A-F, specify symbols to be used, and the minimal number of digits.

And this is only scratching the surface of what this program is able to do. I even have a password which is 72 characters long. Why? Because I can.

The reviews which are lower and 3 stars HARDLY give this justice, I had absolutely no trouble at all installing. Simply unwrap, plug it into the USB port, let windows install, and follow the instructions manual provided in the package. In fact, the installation process was so quick, I had it up and running within 5 minutes.

Overall, this scanner is awesome in all ways.

P.S. I would have given 5 stars if the driver software provided didn’t need to be “upgraded”. Honestly, after paying $50 for it, I would rather not pay another $20 for software, which free versions are better and are readily downloadable and integrable.

First, the scanner itself: I’ve never had it reject my fingerprint, which is great. I was worried that the “swipe” style would be harder to use than the old “press your finger on a little window” style that I had before, but it’s fine. I haven’t tried it with little kids yet, but for adults its easy to use. The scanner body is metal, which is nice, as it has some mass to it. The others I’ve use have been so light that you pretty much had to hold it with one hand while scanning a finger on the other, and that’s not the case here.

I’m using the scanner on Win7x64, which ironically Microsoft never supported with their own fingerprint readers (which is why I had to buy this one after switching to 64-bit). There’s no CD, as the driver is automatically recognized and installed when you plug it in. Configuration is a bit trickier, as the instructions say to go to the “Control Panel > Biometrics”, but Windows actually buries that down in the hardware section. Once you =find= that control panel applet, clicking on it takes you to a page where you can download the free version or upgrade to a ‘premium’ version. I’m using the free and it works fine.

The scanner is also recognized by Roboform. Since I use a very strong master password, it had been annoying having to type it, but now once a day (or whatever the timeout is) I just swipe my finger.

You can swipe to log in, unlock the desktop, or switch users. Since unlocking is now so quick, I set my screensaver to time out after one minute and require a password (or swipe, of course) to get back in. It’s such a simple gesture that now my PC remains locked whenever I’m not there, and it’s much more secure.

The Verifi P2000 Fingerprint Reader has a long USB cord that allows it to be plugged in and positioned to fit the desires of the user. It is small and light weight. So far, it is working fine although I felt it was over priced.
I would caution anyone looking to purchase a fingerprint reader to read carefully as some of the items out there will not work with Windows 7 and some are for usb2. you need to know your computer and read the product description carefully.
This one is working great on my Windows 7 computer.
