IDEMIA partners with My Family ID for creation of Digital ID

IDEMIA has partnered with My Family ID to create digital IDs and capture children’s fingerprints that can be accessed at any time.

IDEMIA is a provider of biometric solutions, including both physical and digital secure credentialing within the US.

The partnership between the brands enables families to capture important identification information for their children, including photos and fingerprints, which is contained within their My Family ID app.

The first-of-its-kind digital fingerprint scanner and child safety profile for smartphones serves an important safety measure in the event that a child or family member was to go missing, the company states.

My Family ID app

The use of face scan and touchless fingerprinting technology on the My Family ID app allows families to capture and store a photo of a child’s face as well as high-resolution and detailed images of a child’s fingerprints.

The app is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Users must pay a one time fee of $0.99, allowing them to create safety profiles for up to six family members.

Importance of the app

The purpose of the app is to help families have up-to-date information of their children and family members.

The app is designed to protect user information and privacy as the app encrypts the images and information, with files only being stored on the user’s device.

The app can generate a PDF of any child’s safety profile instantly that can be sent to other family members, caregivers, or law enforcement officials in the time of an emergency.

The PDF includes all of the identification and safety information provided by the user, with the fingerprints and photos also attached.

The fingerprints can be used for analysis and matching carried out by law enforcement.

Information stored on the My Family ID app

As well as parent or guardian contact information, the detailed information on the app for each family member will include: full name, date of birth, hair colour, eye colour, height, weight, allergies and medication.

When searching for a missing child, law enforcement relies on an up-to-date, good quality photo, the child’s descriptive information and fingerprints.

The FBI and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) stated that fingerprints are the most critical to ensuring a child can be identified quickly and correctly by law enforcement.

“A practical tool for our time”

Charles Still, Retired Juvenile Detective and Creator, My Family ID commented: “Improving how we deal with missing and run-away children is a passion of mine.

“It started when I was a detective and continues to this day. I see My Family ID as a practical tool for our time; a tool that is easy for parents to use and is helpful to law enforcement too.”

IDEMIA’s CEO, Donnie Scott stated: “We immediately saw the value in the My Family ID app […] This is crucial in the event of an emergency when every second counts.”

Additionally, Casey Mayfield, SVP Justice and Public Safety, IDEMIA expressed: “When looking for missing children, having access to children’s up-to-date information is most crucial for law enforcement agencies.

“We are a long-time partner to the law enforcement community with our globally recognized biometric and fingerprint technology.

“Our team is excited to work with My Family ID to help bring another important and effective tool to law enforcement to keep communities across our country safe.”
