“Looks can be deceiving” and “the hands are faster than the eye” are both sayings that can be applied to the video recording versatility of the KeyVU. It looks like your everyday common key fob that disables your car’s alarm and unlocks the doors, but in the right hands (yours) it can take some of the best surreptitious video in the world. Built with the word “covert” in mind, the KeyVU takes incredible 480p video, amazingly crisp and clear SXGA, 24bit quality color still photographs, all with detailed audio.
Rechargeable Batteries Fully charged Lithium-Polymer batteries allow you to record up to 90 continuous minutes of high quality footage. Expanded Memory |
Plug & Play Simply connect the KeyVU to your Mac or PC using the supplied data cable or use the SD card in a card reader. All video is recorded in .AVI format; pictures are saved in .JPEG. |

What a fun little camera!,
Wow, this is really a fun little toy. I have read people having problems in other reviews but mine works very well. So I’m giving a shout out to “USAsouthernSTAR” who is the seller since theirs seem to work! The only thing is I wish the audio was a little more sensitive. When I talk right next to it my voice seems pretty quiet on the recording. Oh well, seriously what can you expect for the price of this little toy. Picture quality and video quality is actually pretty good. The focus is good. It does have more of a zoom feel to it vs. a wide angle lens so you most likely will have to practise in pointing it to get what you want in the frame. Again, it’s pretty cool (omg I’m sounding like a kid lol). Oh yea, the manual is pretty bad but I noticed another paper enclosed written just in english which gives 5 quick points to operating the device. I am guessing this is their solution to all the complains about the manual. The 5 points does not cover setting the time which is why I thought I would share it here.
I read someone had difficulty setting the time. I figured out how to set the time and I thought I would share that with everyone. Just a note about the manual. They try and explain how to set the time (poorly) but then they leave out how you have to empty the file BEFORE you turn it on the 2nd time otherwise the time will get over written again. Hopefully my mini-manual below will help others 🙂
To set/reset the time:
1. While the device is NOT connected to your computer. Turn the device on and back off. This will initialize the SD memory card and create a file named TAG.TXT in the root directory of the SD card. If this file has not been created then in step 3 instead of editting the file your going to create one (in the root directory) and populate the file with the time in YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS (24 hour) format.
2. Connect the device to your computer (via USB cable).
3. Edit the TAG.TXT file with notepad. You will find a default date/time already populated in the file in the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS (24 hour format). I’m guessing this factory default date/time will vary based on the date of manufacturing. Overtype the time you wish to set the device to. Type a time in the future (i.e., 1 or two minutes into the future) as you will see later as to why you want to do this.
4. Save the file and exit notepad.
5. Disconnect the device from your computer.
6. Wait for the future time to arrive. When it has arrived then power on the device. This will set the time to the time you specified in the file and over write the file with the factory default time.
7. Power off the device and connect it to your computer again.
8. Edit the TAG.TXT file. Again, you should find the time in that file has now been over written with the factory default time.
9. Delete the contents on the file BUT DO NOT DELETE THE FILE ITSELF.
10. Save the empty file.
11. After you turn on the device again this file will be over written with the number “2”. I am assuming this tells the device to NOT over write the time when turned on. Your time should now be set on your device between multiple uses.
Note: Again. YOU MUST NOT DELETE THIS FILE. If you delete the file then a new file will be created with the factory default time and the next time you power on the device it will over write the time with the factor default time again.

Good Value, easy to use,
Good Value for the money. Camera looks to have a very small zoom, maybe 5mm on playback. Decent resolution for the size. Easy to operate, no special codecs required for playback. Files saved as .avi.
